The death by 1080 poison of Ian Buchanan has remained a mystery for 50 years, and in 2009 the family wanted the Department of Conservation and the Animal Health Board (now OSPRI) to acknowledge it. Up until then, the DoC and the Animal Health Board had denied that anyone had died by 1080 poisoning in New Zealand. The Death Certificate is included below. The symptoms match those of the Putaruru poisoned family.
